The inspiration for this three day intermediate metalsmithing course is the work of the great silversmiths of Mexico. Students will fabricate their own design for a pierced overlay bracelet with hinges for movement and a custom box clasp closure. Piercing and sweat soldering panels, forming the bracelet, fabricating and troubleshooting custom hinges and clasps and more will be covered during this workshop. Recent practice with basic metalsmithing skills, like sawing, filing and soldering, are required. The kit for this class is for a kit of base metal materials to help offset the cost. An optional kit of sterling for the same project is available.
Price includes a kit of all the materials required to make the projects for class. Each student has a jewelry bench and a complete set of tools to use during class.
Prerequisites:
Basic Metalsmithing and at least two soldering courses or equivalent classes and skills required. Please note that this is an intermediate course that requires recent practice with the above skills for best participation during class. Using low temp solders (like for stained glass or electronics) or fusing are do not count as experience for this class.
