Cost: $220.00

Placed on a dresser or wall, the conventional shadow box is an elegant container for displaying keepsakes. In this advanced metal clay workshop an adaptation becomes the display object itself, an ornament to wear and enjoy.

Students taking this 2 day workshop with Arlene Mornick will move beyond the traditional flat two-dimensional metal clay object and learn to build a frame, add backing on that frame, compose additional decorative elements, and add a fantasy bail. Each student's unique shadowbox design will house a keepsake stone, bead or pearl. As three pieces of jewelry are created, including a ring, the focus is on planning, building and drying individual components, which are then engineered into a three dimensional structure.

Techniques taught:
• Metal clay 3D box construction
• Joining metal clay components
• Making and adding on a bail
• Creating settings or holding strategies for additional elements like pearls, beads or stones

A kit fee of $75 is due to the instructor on the first day of class for materials to make the sample projects. Use of tools included. Each student has their own bench to use during class.
