Working in wax is so sculptural. There is such a freedom to not only make rings, pendants, etc, but to also make them flow with figurative motifs, like wings, hair, plants, etc. Can’t draw? Don’t worry! Your instructor will be there live on zoom to demo step by step how to render these images in wax and answer questions during this online class sequel to Lost Wax Casting 1 - Basics.
This course is available as an in-person workshop or live online class, and as a 4 week course or 2-3 day workshop. Please check this page for times and formats available.
Students will grow their skills as they work through simple to more challenging projects. The first project is creating low relief images, like simple bas relief. Next we’ll translate a 2D image, like a name or abstract calligraphy into a 3D wax model with lots of movement. Then we’ll carve a scroll, with thick and thin lines, leaves and other fun elements. Finally, we’ll move into a representative design like a flower, plant, bird, etc.
This class meets for 4 weeks, 3 hours per week for a total of 12 hours of instruction time.
Whether you're new to carving something realistic or want to further your sculpture skills, this class is full of helpful tricks, tips and techniques for rendering realistic motifs in wax.
• Layout and transfer techniques
• Using guidelines for accurate carving
• Carving and build up techniques for rendering in wax
• Rendering bas relief images in wax

After Lost Wax Casting 1, the lost wax casting series (2, 3 & 4) can be taken in any order.
