Crown Settings (online)

Crown settings are a timeless and very adaptable setting. This setting can be more like a bezel or prongs depending on how you cut it. With an elegant taper, this setting is perfect for rings, pendants, earrings, and many other applications!

In this class, students will learn how to fabricate a crown setting, layout and cut the prongs, cut the seat and set stones into a finished piece of jewelry.

Adaptations and different methods of construction will be discussed as well as the basics of faceted stones.

  • Soldering set-up: soldering surface, flux, pick, pickle
  • Rawhide or plastic mallet
  • Needle file set of 6
  • Universal holder or grs benchmate with ring holder
  • Sanding tools - either sanding paper/sticks or snap-on discs for the flexshaft
  • Flexshaft or Dremel

About Our Interactive Online Classes
This class is online and uses the Zoom app/website. Through Zoom, you’ll be able to see demos and follow instructions, ask questions and interact with your instructor. Zoom is easy to use and free for students to use for class, and works on most devices, like phones (iphone, Android, etc), tablets (iPads, etc), and computers (Mac or PC).

This course meets for 2 weeks, 3 hours per week, for a total of 6 hours. Your instructor is also available during free Zoom office hours for questions and help.

Each class is also recorded and available for students to watch later, to review instructions or in case you missed a class.

Students work at home or in their studio. All of our recommended tools and the kit materials are chosen to be home studio friendly. We always choose the safest materials, chemicals and tools for you and the environment.

Class policies for refunds, transfers and cancelations.



Basic jewelry skills, like completion of Jewelry 1, or equivalent skills like soldering jewelry, sawing, filing and polishing. Intro courses (like Intro to Soldering) are not sufficient for the prerequisites.
