Got a stone, enamel sample or little found treasure that’s been lying on your bench just waiting to become something special? This information-packed workshop can make that happen by helping you develop new, elegant, more fully integrated setting (capturing) solutions and down some of the rigid walls between idea, process and material.

We’ll loosen up and liberate the problem solver within, examine the why’s along with the how’s and explore a variety of tricks, studio tips and some really bad jokes. Among the topics demonstrated and discussed: cold connecting, caging, back setting, the flex shaft and advanced soldering techniques.

Andy Cooperman says, “My goal in teaching this class is, in a way, nontraditional. I am not concerned that you leave this workshop with recipes or step-by-step instructions for executing a specific technique or a particular piece of jewelry. It is my hope, rather, that the days that we spend together will allow you to begin to approach your work with a fresh perspective and to view the studio and its processes in a different way.”

Although this is NOT a “Stone Setting” class, students will be focusing on the basic principles behind stone setting, reinterpreting them and then reapplying those principles to traditional and non-traditional setting situations and materials that could include gemstones. Using a small project like a brooch, Andy will demonstrate a variety of technical themes including soldering, a lot of “flexible shaftery”, riveting and some brooch findings. He will also demonstrate a specific tube setting that he likes.

Register for this workshop with Andy Cooperman today, and get ready to inspire your imagination and fire up your jewelry making.

A $30 dollar kit fee is due the first day of class and payable to the instructor. The rest of your materials and use of tools are included with your class fees. Each student has a bench of their own to use during the workshop, ant it’s fully equipped with your own soldering station, flex shaft and a complete set of tools.

Please review our COVID-19 guidelines for in-person students.

For the health and safety our staff and students, students are required to show proof of vaccination and to wear masks when attending classes at our school.
