Class Instructor: Christine Dwane

Christine Dwane

Christine Dwane is a Montreal-based jeweller, gemmologist, and jewellery designer who has built her practice on a deep respect for craftsmanship, a love of science, and a drive to innovate. Her work has been widely exhibited and recognized with multiple awards for both design and education.

Graduating at the top of her class at the École de Joaillerie et des Métaux d’Art de Montréal, Christine went on to apprentice under master Swiss-German jeweller Robert Ackermann—a formative experience that helped shape her precise yet expressive approach to jewellery making.

She is now a respected instructor at the École de Joaillerie de Montréal and was named Niche
Award Educator of the Year for North America in 2016. Christine is a graduate and member of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (GAGTL) and an active member of Ethical Metalsmiths (EM).

She continues to create forged, machined, and hand-assembled pieces in gold, silver, titanium, and niobium from her Montreal studio, where she often works closely with clients to develop personalized and memorable commissions. A dedicated advocate for sustainable practices in the jewellery industry, Christine was among the
first in North America to develop and teach a workshop on responsible jewellery practices. Today, she works with recycled metals and responsibly sourced gems, and is developing educational tools—like Gems and Their Treatments: A Guide for Jewellers and Their Clients—to help both professionals and the public better understand the materials they wear and cherish.

Christine’s work has been featured in galleries and boutiques in Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto, and in publications including Elle Québec, Jewellery Business, and Canadian Jeweller. After winning a national design competition, she was selected to design and produce the insignia for the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec (CALQ)—a lasting symbol of excellence in the arts.
