kristina malcolm

kristina malcolm is a metalsmith, educator, and researcher with over 30 years of experience at the bench and decades of teaching across disciplines. She holds an MFA in Jewelry/Metals/Enameling from Kent State University, where she explored the kinetic, the interactive, and the therapeutic potential of wearable art.

Her work bridges ancient techniques and contemporary innovation, specializing in the full spectrum of jewelry casting—from traditional investment and cuttlebone to experimental methods using organic and salvaged materials. She also teaches various etching systems, adapted for sustainable, small-scale studios. A core mission of her practice is transforming complex processes into something approachable, empowering home jewelers to experiment with courage and care.

Known for her clear, encouraging style, kristina’s teaching is rooted in hands-on exploration, playful rigor, and Craft Theory. She currently teaches as an adjunct at the University of Akron and leads workshops at craft schools, community programs, and through her own in-person and online offerings. Her ongoing research investigates the deep connection between Craft, healing, and storytelling—championing tactile making as a form of wellness, reflection, and neuroplastic growth. Her public work includes the permanent Community Art Quilt at Boettler Park in Green, Ohio. And she has recently exhibited at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, the University of Akron, and Summit Artspace, sharing kinetic jewelry rooted in material narrative and personal resilience. She invites students to engage fire, form, and meaning with curiosity, play, and power.
