Plique-a-jour enameling is one of the most beautiful and intricate of the traditional enameling techniques. In plique-a-jour the enamel is fired without anything behind it, so that the light can shine through the enamel, creating a stained glass window effect.

In this class, learn several methods to create plique-a-jour framework of your own design and different approaches to firing plique a jour. Both kiln and torch firing will be covered, plique-a-jour is easier with a kiln.

Techniques covered:

  • Piercing plique-a-jour patterns
  • Fusing wire for a plique-a-jour pattern
  • Mica, titanium, and copper foil methods of firing
  • No backing building method of firing
  • Plique-a-jour on curved surfaces
  • Cleaning plique-a-jour enamel
  • Finishing enamel pieces
  • Historical and contemporary applications of the technique
  • Kiln and torch firing

This course is available as an in-person workshop or live online class, and as a 6 week course or 3 day workshop. Please check this page for times and formats available.
