This class with Anat, author of Enameling Made Easy, will teach you a lot about the art of enameling! Enamels have been used to bring glorious color to jewelry for thousands of years. Fired glass can be added to fabricated or cast jewelry, and brings your designs to vivid life. It all starts with the basics.
This online interactive Zoom class includes techniques like the basics of kiln and torch fired enameling, torch safety, stenciling with enamels, sgraffito, stamping designs and even using decals to embed images.
This enameling class introduces both kiln firing and torch firing. If you only have a torch (Blazer Big Shot) you will be able to do everything. Using a kiln provides a stable environment of heat to surround your pieces as you fire the glass enamel onto metal. But a kiln isn't the only way to enamel. Use a home friendly butane cooking torch to fire enamel. Torch firing is safe and provides anintimate vision of the stages of fusion that enamels go through. Sign up today and let Anat share her passion for enameling with you.
Beyond the basics of choosing enamels, sifting and firing, this class also introduces several techniques for embellishing your work. Sgraffito is the technique of drawing designs in your enamels. Stencils allow for precise shapes and patterns to be sifted in place. Anat will also demonstrate how you can use decals, rubber stamps and stencils to create detailed imagery in glass.
