This suite of three alternative stone setting techniques offers new, fun ways to highlight your stones. Create open, two-sided bezels that wrap around the edge of your stone or faceted gem, make prongs that can wrap your rough top stones, and create impressive, thick bezels that will hold your stones for a lifetime.

The first project in this live online Zoom class teaches you how to bezel set unusual stones, faceted gems, and found objects, like tumbled pottery or beach glass, and river rocks. Make two-sided bezels for these that are set around the girdle of your stone, showing off both sides. Use these to create earrings or pendants.

The next project, free form prong setting, captures and sets rough stones, brass stampings and beads that don’t have holes or built in attachments. These adaptable prong settings make great earrings, rings or pendants.

Finally, we’ll make a thick gauge bezel setting. These bezels made from 18-24 gauge sheet, are set with a punch. They have a totally different look from thin gauge rub-over bezels, and are very durable. You can also make variations on this technique, like making a tab setting.

Techniques taught:
• Choosing stones and pieces to set for each style of setting
• Making a two-sided bezel settings
• Fabricating free form custom prong settings
• Creating thick gauge bezels
• Set cabochons with a tab setting
