Earrings: Hoops & Posts

Friday, May 31, 2019, 10:00AM - 5:00PM PT (Pacific Time)

Cost: $165.00

Earrings are one of the best selling, most popular forms of jewelry, but they have their own challenges for the maker. They’re a set and have to match, and people want earrings that are secure, with soldered connections that aren’t going to come apart. This class demonstrates valuable techniques for creating multiple matching earrings.

First, students will make a pair of earrings with posts. Anat will demonstrate how to make studs with a bezel setting and tricks for soldering on posts.

Next, Anat will introduce techniques for making a variety of hoop earrings, with and without soldering.

This class is a great way to practice soldering, learn more soldering, filing, texturing and forming techniques - and walk away with multiple pairs of earrings. The skills taught in this class will easily transfer to other jewelry designs, like rings and pendants.

Techniques taught:
• Soldering on posts

• How to harden posts

• Sweat soldering

• Create multiple identical hoops in a variety of gauges and styles
• Tapering earwires from thick to thin, for good joins and for a comfortable fit

• Forging and forming hoops
• Make catches for ear wires on hoops
• Texturing, filing and polishing metal

Kit of materials, full color handout and use of tools included with class. Each student has a jewelry bench to work at with loads of basic jewelry tools, including a soldering station, flex shaft, etc.

This is a beginner level class that requires previous basic experience with soldering, like our Intro to Soldering class or Basic Jewelry 1 (any). It's a great follow up class for more practice with soldering.
