Want to learn how to solder your jewelry? Sample several soldering techniques in this short interactive online Zoom workshop by Joe Silvera, the author of Soldering Made Simple: Easy Techniques for Kitchen Table Jewelers and Soldering Beyond the Basics.
You'll learn how to make soldered connections using simplified, professional techniques, an easy to use butane torch and a simple home setup. This class will cover soldering tools, materials, fueling and lighting your torch, and more as students solder sterling earrings with bezel stone settings.
This is a perfect introduction to an important technique for making jewelry. All demonstrations are magnified live on your screen so that you can see the amazing transformation of metal as it flows into joins.
No previous experience required. Open to students of any level.

A kit of materials is included with this class. Registered students receive a class kit by mail, shipped to the address used for registration. Please be sure to contact us at the time of registration with any updates re: where you want your kit shipped.

About Our Interactive Online Classes
This class is online and uses the Zoom app/website. Through Zoom, you’ll be able to see demos and follow instructions, ask questions and interact with your instructor. Zoom is easy to use and free for students to use for class, and works on most devices, like phones (iphone, Android, etc), tablets (iPads, etc), and computers (Mac or PC).
Each class is also recorded and available for students to watch later, to review instructions or in case you missed a class.
Students work at home or in their studio. All of our recommended tools and the kit materials are chosen to be home studio friendly.
Tools for this Class

Flush cutting pliera
Solderite solder board, 6x6
Otto flux (no bifluoride)
Blazer Stingray or similar torch
Blazer Butane canister
Flat nose pliers (plain jaws, no grooves)
Chain nose pliers (plain jaws, no grooves)
Round nose pliers
A computer, phone or tablet to use the free Zoom app for class
You’ll also need some basic stuff like these:
Wear clothes that okay to get dirty or an apron (non synthetic like cotton preferred)
Old dish towel (okay to get dirty)
small 4” -6” wide water bowl (glass, metal, ceramic or sturdy plastic ok)
Something to protect your table from fire, like a 12x12” ceramic tile or shallow baking sheet
Steaming hot water from the tap or microwaved, in a non-food container, like the bowls above
Magnifiers (around 2x) if needed
Plastic spoons, chopsticks or copper tongs
Permanent black marker, fine tip
Liquid dish soap (like Dawn Blue)
Scotch-Brite style scour pad or old toothbrush
