Computer aided design (CAD) is the future of jewelry now. Jewelers design jewelry down to the finest details, including settings, on a computer and then output their work to a 3D printer or a milling machine.
The wax-like model produced can then be cast in metal (like sterling, alloys of gold, etc.) Jewelers have been designing and making jewelry with computers for decades now, and the technology keeps getting better.
Imagine being able to design your jewelry so realistically that you can display it to clients and adjust it before you even render it into metal. Designs can be saved and adjusted for different rings sizes and different stones.
This 3-day class with Mark London trains students in the most commonly used software for CAD by 3DESIGN®, and teaches them how to output designs for casting. Designed BY a jeweler, for jewelers, 3DESIGN® allows you to design nearly anything you can think of. In this three-day class, you'll learn the fundamentals of how to do it!
Mark London, an award winning and highly respected jewelry designer, goldsmith, gemologist and one of the best 3DESIGN® instructors in the U.S., will give his students hands-on training as they work with the software. Experience the intuitive ease of using 3DESIGN® and quickly understand why it's the top CAD software in the jewelry industry. This 3DESIGN® class from Silvera Jewelry School offers the industry-leading software with one of the most experienced jewelry CAD instructors who is currently working as an independent jewelry designer and goldsmith.
After-the-class, students have access to the 3DESIGN® training lounge, which helps you to continue to hone your skills.
Included in the class fee are 2 printed resin models from your finished original computer designs, and access to more model production at reduced cost (half price for a period of 1 year on up to a maximum of 5 additional models).
Mark is committed to helping students get the most out of this powerful software while providing a real-world perspective on the commitment, creativity and communication required to make even the more complex compositions you may imagine.
Here's what you'll learn in this three-day class!
• Get familiar with the 3DESIGN® program's many tools, create and manipulate simple forms, and design your own ring.
• Continue learning CAD at home with a 30-day license of the full 3DESIGN® package—more than five hours of online video tutorials and access to a very active worldwide users' forum. And, if you decide to purchase the 3DESIGN® package, you get the 3Shaper sculpting module free!
Requirements: Each student must bring a laptop computer (Mac or PC) to install the student 3DESIGN® software on during the first day of class. Compatible system requirements are listed at 3Design.com. Please read the system require ments carefully. 3Design requires a video processor / graphics processor that is not an Intel brand to work. To check your gpu video graphics card, on a PC go to your Device Manager, and then Display Adaptors. For Mac, go to the Apple on the menu bar and select About this Mac. Also, a mouse is suggested for the best compatability with the software tools. We suggest a mouse with left and right click buttons and a wheel. The software license is installed on a USB flash drive for your use. You'll need to have a way to connect the drive to your computer. If you have a Apple computer that only has Thunderbolt ports, be sure to also bring any Thunderbolt to USB adaptors, if necessary.
This class is intended for jewelry students who want to learn how to design and output jewelry with their computer. We recommend that students have some basic fabrication skills and experience with making jewelry to get the most out of this class. However, it's not mandatory.
