Have you ever wanted to be able to get your ideas on paper better? Do you do custom work and want to be able to accurately share designs with clients? Learn how to express your jewelry designs on paper for yourself and others with master illustrator Rémy Rotenier!

Best of all, you don't need to know how to draw! This class will teach you the basics.

Rémy will walk you through jewelry design, illustration and rendering concepts and exercises in this intensive 5 day course. This course is broken down into 2 equal parts, the first half of the course focuses on black and white sketching and designing followed by color rendering
for both metal and gemstones. Through up-close and masterful demonstrations by Paris-trained instructor, Rémy Rotenier, students observe metal, gemstones, and other materials as they come to life on paper. In this live interactive online course, you have the best view in the house and interactive individualized instruction from Rémy as you progress.

In the workshop you will develop your pencil sketching skills to successfully present your jewelry design concepts. Then you will learn to render true-to-life metal and gemstone techniques with gouache. The skills from this class are valuable in all aspects of a jeweler’s career- confidence to create powerful drawings, communicate ideas and refine designs on paper.

Intimidated by the idea of drawing? Rémy will help you step by step to succeed and feel more confident. 

Rémy will cover the whole process: from a rough sketch to a wonderful and detailed, color painting. This class is excellent for students of all levels - from beginner to professional - who want to develop or refine the skills necessary for custom design as well as creating their own collections.

During class, you will develop unique designs from diverse source images provided by the instructor. With these tools, students will complete the course with confidence, prepared to create renderings of exceptional realism, vitality, and sparkle.

Techniques covered include:

  • Pencil sketching and black and white rendering
  • Developing drawing skills including perspective, shading, and blending
  • Counter sketching for custom designs
  • Gouache and watercolor illustration
  • Use of gouache and watercolor palettes
  • Depicting different materials - opaque, transparent and metallic surfaces
  • Jewelry design concepts and development
  • Black and white and color rendering of various gemstones - faceted, cabochon, and pearls
  • Depicting various metals in color including yellow, rose, and white gold.

A kit of materials is included with this class and will be mailed to you.  A $165 dollar kit fee is due the first day of class and payable to the instructor. You will receive a Paypal invoice from the instructor for the kit fee after registration.  Please be sure that the address with your payment is the correct one for shipping.

About Our Interactive Online Classes
This class is online and uses the Zoom app/website. Through Zoom, you’ll be able to see demos and follow instructions, ask questions and interact with your instructor. Zoom is easy to use and free for students to use for class, and works on most devices, like phones (iphone, Android, etc), tablets (iPads, etc), and computers (Mac or PC).

This course meets for 5 days, 2.5 hour morning, midday, and afternoon sessions with breaks in between, for a total of 37.5 hours. 

Each class is also recorded and available for students to watch later for a limited time, to review instructions or in case you missed a class.

Students work at home or in their studio. All of our recommended tools and the kit materials are chosen to be home studio friendly. We always choose the safest materials, chemicals and tools for you and the environment.
