Join Alison Antelman for a journey in solving jewelry fabrication problems and learn solutions to common design and fabrication challenges as you design and create a hinged bracelet or necklace.
Students create a “map” of their project, learn to make irregular shaped bezel settings for unusually shaped stones, add hinges and where to place them for irregular shapes and using stainless steel wire, solder sterling terminations to the steel, add a hook clasp and complete your project.
Students are guided through the process along with discussion, case studies, actual examples and solutions shown in a power point presentation. Alison will guide students as she demonstrates the interplay of movement and functionality in jewelry and the approach from the wearer’s point of view (ie: does it sit funny on the neck, is it too heavy, does the pendant flop over).
The real benefit to this class is learning how to engineer your jewelry projects as you discover solutions to common design and fabrication challenges.
Step-by-step handouts are supplied along with samples. Basic fabrication and soldering required.

This course meets for 3 days, morning and afternoon sessions each day, for a total of 18 hours.

Chain nose pliers
torch (acetylene/air or smith little torch- propane/oxygen or acetylene/oxygen)
hard and medium solder
Soldering set-up including: Solderite board, flux, pick, third hand, tweezers
pickle pot/bowl and pickle
Burr life or other blade lubricant
Scriber -anything sharp to scribe into metal
Metric ruler or other measuring device
paper needed-White butcher paper/regular printer paper/scrap paper
Tube Cutting Jig OR Miter Vise
Chasing hammer or riveting hammer or similar
Colored Markers Or Pencils
Stone setting tools for cabochons including bezel pusher and/or Burnisher
Burs (most any shape or size bur will work- something to run across the silver to clean up)
Wire cutters for stainless cable wire (Use inexpensive cutters. Don't use your good wire cutters because steel will notch the blades. Cutting stainless wire isn’t easy with any clippers. I’ve found bicycle wire cable cutters work better than regular wire cutters Also hard wire cutters are good.

About Our Interactive Online Classes
This class is online and uses the Zoom app/website. Through Zoom, you’ll be able to see demos and follow instructions, ask questions and interact with your instructor. Zoom is easy to use and free for students to use for class, and works on most devices, like phones (iphone, Android, etc), tablets (iPads, etc), and computers (Mac or PC).
Each class is also recorded and available for students to watch later, to review instructions or in case you missed a class.
Students work at home or in their studio. All of our recommended tools and the kit materials are chosen to be home studio friendly.

Students must have previous experience with soldering and basic fabrication of precious metals, like successful completion of Jewelry 1 (online or in-person) or similar experience.
