Fusing is joining metal without soldering. This workshop focuses on fusing Argentium sterling, a fantastic alloy of silver and germanium. Students will fuse Argentium links to make a bracelet with a toggle clasp.
Argentium Sterling is everything you wish you had in regular copper-based sterling silver: it’s more malleable, it fuses beautifully, it’s easier to polish after soldering, it isn't prone to fire stain when soldered, it hardens with low heat, and best of all – it doesn’t tarnish! Argentium has the best qualities of sterling and fine silver combined.
Because this alloy of silver and germanium behaves so differently from traditional sterling silver, it’s important to treat it like a new metal. Students will practice with Argentium as you make fused links for bracelets, earrings, chain, etc. You may just switch over to Argentium for all of your silver jewelry!
