Diamond setting is a challenging and rewarding part of the jewelry making process. The ability to set small stones into the surface of metal jewelry greatly widens the palette of skills, and the possibilities available for the jewelry artist. Join guest instructor, master engraver Dave Giulietti as he shares his favorite tips and tricks, and passion for engraving.

Bead setting course participants will be complete several projects including:
• A bead set band
• A box bead setting
• A star set pendant

Also, this course will cover how to prepare and sharpen the engravers used to create the settings. This skill can of course be applied to engraving designs, as well as using handy engravers to clean up hard to reach areas on your jewelry.

Skills covered in the class include:
• the preparation and use of gravers, drills, burs, beading tools and millgrain tools.
• layout for setting
• anatomy of a gemstone as it relates to stone setting
• drilling and burring
• bead raising and forming
• bright cutting
• mill graining
• azuring
• Seating stones

Class includes everything you need to make the sample projects: all materials and a kit of tools and a handout with instructions, notes and resources. Each student has a bench full of the necessary tools to use during class.

Students must have basic jewelry skills and stone setting experience. Our Basic Jewelry class provides the minimum prerequisites for this class. It's also recommended that students take Stone Setting 1 or have the equivalent skills with using burs and a flex shaft to make settings.
