Electroforming is a cool way to make large and light jewelry and vessels. This process is used by the aerospace industry to grow metal parts, and for jewelry it lets you grow metal over objects until your metal is the thickness of sheet metal.

You can electroform over plants, found objects and custom forms. Imagine copper succulents and pomegranates. You can do that with electroforming. Electroformed pieces can be enameled too! You can solder and fabricate with electroformed pieces.

In this course, students will learn about the process of copper electroforming and create at least one finished piece of electroformed jewelry.

Techniques taught:

  • • how electroforming works
  • • safety
  • • preparation of natural objects and found objects
  • • how to use sheet and carving wax for electroforming
  • • troubleshooting growth
  • • connection methods for electroformed pieces
  • • finishing tips
  • • how to create your own electroforming bath for home use
