Metal Clay 2: Base Metal Clays Copper and Bronze

Cost: $265.00

Copper and Bronze metal clays are significantly less expensive than their Fine Silver counterpart, however, working with them can be far more problematic. In this weekend class students will have hands-on experience and learn the advantages and challenges of these base metal clays. Projects will include the use of both copper and bronze clay.

Techniques covered include:
• Pros and cons of the various brands of base metals
• Conditioning the clay before starting work
• Minimum thickness based on design and firing technique
• Planning for shrinkage
• Connecting design components
• Drying projects prior to firing
• Combining different base metals in one design
• Firing techniques: Torch, open shelf, carbon
• Finishing techniques

A kit fee of $50 is due at the start of class and payable to the instructor. 
Kit includes all of your materials for the class projects. Use of tools included with the class.

Prior experience with metal clay, like successful completion of a basic metal clay class, like Metal Clay and Argentium, Metal Clay and Enameling, or Metal Clay 1.
